Asbestos SMART trials mobilised at Knight Frank's London commercial property
UKNAR’s Asbestos SMART trials are underway with Knight Frank across its central London commercial property portfolio, following an innovative new partnership with the leading independent global real estate consultancy.
Over lockdown, Knight Frank signed up to trial UKNAR’S Asbestos SMART QR code technology to help create a safer environment for contractors, landlords and building occupiers in commercial properties across central London.
The first in a phase of successful Asbestos SMART installation tests was carried out at a property on London’s Strand with Matt Gee, Facilities Manager, Knight Frank. Matt Gee comments: “Asbestos SMART is quick and easy to set up and use. It takes seconds to scan the unique QR code with your mobile phone or tablet – and gives us instant access to all known asbestos in the building. We expect this will save us significant time moving forward across our portfolio as it is a completely paperless process. It also supports our social distancing health and safety practice, as it eliminates human contact with the traditional paper-based asbestos registers and files.”
Jason Taylor, Head of Facilities Management, Knight Frank, London, comments: “Asbestos SMART proactively promotes good public health and safety practice and helps us to look after everyone who uses our buildings. Today everyone has access to a mobile phone, so by using the latest simple smart technology, we can protect contractors, visitors and occupiers alike.”
Stuart Towers, Head of Research & Sales, UKNAR said: “Knight Frank clearly sets the bar for maintaining the highest standards across its portfolio. We are concerned about the number of contractors who do not have ready access to asbestos registers and start work without checking one. It is great to see Knight Frank taking proactive measures to clearly signpost the Asbestos SMART register in their London properties – and we look forward to a national roll out.”
The new partnership with Knight Frank represents a significant milestone for UKNAR as a newly formed Community Interest Company (CIC) and its commitment to pursuing a social purpose over making profits for shareholders. As a direct beneficiary, leading specialist cancer charity, Mesothelioma UK will receive five percent of all Asbestos SMART license fees.
